We regularly visit our customers to see how they are getting on. That's not as easy as it used to be, but we can also reach our customers by telephone and using video conferencing. We would like to share our experiences in this section.
Today: Smart investment in LED lighting
I visited a tomato grower who has been using HPS lighting for years. To the customer's satisfaction, but you have to keep innovating. “The use of LED lighting is on the increase. It appeals to me too, but I haven't got the money to be making large-scale investments at the moment”.
We see that LED lighting is being used widely, and we are also aware of its various benefits.
You can adjust the colour to the crop, and you use less energy.
We at Isolectra have a few of our own ideas in that respect.
One of those is 'hybrid lighting'.
This involves hanging some LED lamps between the HPS lamps.
Remove a HPS lamp and replace it with an LED lamp (diagram 2). A HPS lamp often has a higher light output than an LED lamp, which means you can still use the existing installation. We have developed the Wieland converter to make connection as simple as possible. It is available in various configurations so that your existing installation doesn't need to be modified. Which is ideal if you want to conduct a test. The converter fits in the input on the existing connector and in the output of the connector of the LED lamp you wish to use. It is easy to return to the old situation after the test if necessary.
If you want to keep using the HPS installation and you want to add a number of LED lamps, the Y-adapter is an excellent solution (diagram 3). Check in advance that the circuit cannot be overloaded and, if space permits, it is very easy to simply add an LED lamp. The investment costs are kept to a minimum by using the Y-adapter, and an LED lamp can be added rapidly and faultlessly.
Simply connect the Y-adapter to the existing connector with the splitter. The existing HPS lamp and the LED lamp can be plugged into the 2 cables.
Both solutions are ideal for this day and age. There is limited investment involved, yet this allows you to discover whether LED lighting can make a difference to the growth of your crop. And, once there is more room for investment, if the results are encouraging all the selected components can be included in a new installation.
All Wieland solutions are IP 66/68 (3m:2h)/IP69-rated, as you would expect.
